Our presence in India
State-of-the-art production facilities have been serving national and global markets since 2007.
B. Braun Medical (India) Private Limited was incorporated in 1984 as a subsidiary of B. Braun Melsungen AG. Since then, the company has made rapid strides in the Indian market and now serves customers not only across India but around the world.
The registered and corporate office(s) of B. Braun Medical (India) Private Limited is in Mumbai, Maharashtra and New Delhi, respectively. The company also operates three zonal offices in Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai, along with three production units to support both national and global demands.
B. Braun’s manufacturing operations started in 1996 in Ponda, Goa. In 2007, these operations were relocated to a new, state-of-the-art facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Today, the Chennai plant manufactures over 2,000 types of surgical sutures, including cardiovascular sutures. With a capacity of approximately 50 million sutures annually, the plant employs more than 500 people and is operationally integrated with the B. Braun Center of Excellence (CoE) for Sutures in Spain.
Women represent about 70% of the workforce at the Chennai plant, reflecting B. Braun’s strong commitment to diversity and empowerment.
As part of the Aesculap division, the plant contributes significantly to B. Braun’s global suture supply. Integration with CoE best practices and adherence to U.S. and European Pharmacopoeial standards ensure top-tier product safety and quality.
The facility is certified under ISO 13485:2016 (EN ISO 13485:2016/AC:2018+A11:2021) for medical device quality management systems. Additional certifications—ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015—underline our dedication to workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and quality manufacturing.
The Chennai plant also embraces green initiatives, using solar energy in its operations. Solar panels installed in the parking area contribute significantly to the plant’s daily energy needs.
B. Braun Group acquired Ahlcon Parenterals in March 2012, marking a key milestone in expanding its manufacturing footprint in India with a strong focus on international quality standards.
Established in 1992, Ahlcon Parenterals was founded to provide BFS (Blow-Fill-Seal) technology-based Large Volume and Small Volume Parenterals at affordable prices, fulfilling the demand for reliable and high-quality production in the pharmaceutical industry.
The plant has an installed capacity of 104 million LVP bottles annually (in 100ml, 200ml, 300ml, and 500ml pack sizes), along with a capacity of 159 million SVP vials (in 2ml, 3ml, 5ml, 10ml, and 20ml sizes), available in both transparent and opaque packs.
Ahlcon manufactures life-saving intravenous fluids using advanced, aseptic Blow-Fill-Seal technology sourced from Europe and the U.S. The fully automated process—where containers are formed, filled, and sealed in a sterile environment—eliminates human contact and minimizes contamination risk.
Quality control is ensured at every stage through a sophisticated, in-house laboratory. This aligns with B. Braun’s overall commitment to safety, innovation, and compliance with global ISO and cGMP standards.
